"Give an opportunity" is an all-Poland social project implemented by the Women's Institute since 2005, whose aim is social and professional development of women living at Single Mother Homes in all Poland and material and financial support for SMH facilities.
The programme is directed towards women living at Single Mother Homes all over Poland, who are at least 18 years old. This is significant group of people, who are lost, which no chance to function independently with children and without work and productive support from their environment. Over 100 Single Mother Homes in Poland have been invited to participate, of which 20 declared active participation in the project.
In project realisation, three basic forms of aid are involved:
- Creating opportunities for raising their own qualification and improve education for women living at Single Mother Homes. As part of these activities, an all-Poland network of postsecondary schools offered women living at Single Mother Homes an opportunity to commence education in one- and two-year postsecondary school or complementary education at secondary school. The result of these activities was the creation of opportunities for disadvantaged women to effectively gain independence and find their place on the job market.
- Organising specialist consultation for women and workshops/international meetings for children living at SMH. The education and development will be followed by tutors appointed at each branch where the women from SMH are going to learn. On the basis of the collected information about the women (their educational progress, professional preferences, expectations), the tutors will help them to write CV and cover letter, which will be used in active search for job by the trainees.
- Material and financial aid for the institutions and women and children who live there.
As part of these activities, in January and February this year, in pilot campaign, Rossmann gave away various necessary products to the selected SMH institutions (those, which applied for the donations in kind). The material aid provided included toiletries, cosmetics, care accessories, toys, DVDs, radio-CD players, cordless kettles, toasters, dinner sets and heaters.
Financial support the management at Rossmann SDP decided to provide for the Give an Opportunity project and Single Mother Homes is the method of realising the corporate social responsibility mission by the company. For many years Rossmann has undertaken various pro-social activities, initiating and actively engaging in projects directed towards women and children.
We believe this will be the first step in constant, long-term cooperation and together with the organisers and originators of this campaign, we will be able to help this disadvantaged group of our society not only in financial manner.
